COMMERCIAL ITEM DESCRIPTION
CLAMP, BONE AND PLATE HOLDING, Lowman’s Modified
The General Services Administration has authorized the use of this Commercial Item Description as a replacement for Military Specification MIL-C-37001 which is cancelled.
This Commercial Item Description covers one type of bone and plate holding clamp suitable for use in orthopedic surgery.
Salient characteristics:
General. The clamp shall be of the modified Lowman’s design. The clamps specified herein shall be of the following sizes:

Material. The upper and lower members of the clamp shall be fabricated from class 4, type 420 stainless steel in accordance with ASTM F899. The screw and guide pin of the clamp shall be fabricated from class 3, types 302, 303, or 304 stainless steel in accordance with ASTM F899.
Hardness. The upper and lower members of the clamp shall have a Rockwell Hardness C Scale (HRC) of C40 to C45 and the screw and guide pin of the clamp shall have a Rockwell Hardness of B75 to B85 when tested in accordance with ASTM E18 or E92, whichever is applicable. Conversion of hardness values shall be in accordance with ASTM E140.
Style, design and dimensions. The clamp shall be in accordance with Defense Personnel Support Center (DPSC) Drawing No. 1830 for style, design and dimensions.
