COMMERCIAL ITEM DESCRIPTION
PLATE, GROUNDING, ELECTROSURGICAL
The General Services Administration has authorized the use of this Commercial Item Description.
This Commercial Item Description covers a disposable electrosurgical grounding plate.
Salient Characteristics:
The grounding plate shall be a thin, lightweight, disposable, flexible, conductive adhesive, dispersive electrode with a preattached cord, suitable for use with a monopolar electrosurgical unit. The plate shall be approximately 9.25 inches by 4 inches. The conductive adhesive shall cover an area of approximately 20 square inches, with a nonconductive adhesive border of approximately 1 inch. There shall be a nonconductive strip at the top of the plate near the tab.
The entire adhesive area shall be covered with a peel-off liner that protects the plate until used. The backing shall be fabricated of a thin occlusive foam. The plate shall easily conform to the body. The nonconductive border shall keep out contaminating fluid to maintain electrical isolation. The preattached cord shall be riveted to the tab and overwrapped with foam to insure a good mechanical and electrical connection- The cord shall be attached to the plate tab away from the adhesive area to eliminate tissue pressure points. The plate shall not cause thermal burns, pressure necrosis, adhesive skin stripping, allergic skin reaction or chemical skin irritation during proper use and shall be easy to remove after use. The plate shall meet the applicable requirements of ANSI/AAMI HF18-1986, Standard for Electrosurgical Devices.
