COMMERCIAL ITEM DESCRIPTION
ADENOTOME, LAFORCE
The General Services Administration has authorized the use of this Commercial Item Description as a replacement for Military Specification MIL-A-36725 which is cancelled.
This commercial item description covers an adenotome that is suitable for use in surgical procedures.
Salient characteristics:
General. The adenotome shall be 9-1/4 inches long in the closed position, of the LaForce design and suitable for use in such surgical procedures as the excision of the adenoids.
Material. The adenotome shall be fabricated from class 3, type 302, 303 or 304 stainless steel or class 4 type 420 or 420 stainless steel in accordance with ASTM F899.
Hardness. The adenotome shall have a Rockwell Hardness of B75 to B85 for class 3 stainless steel and C40 to C45 for class 4 stainless steel when tested in accordance with ASTM E18 or E92, whichever is applicable. Conversion of hardness values shall be in accordance with ASTM E140.
Style, design and dimensions. The adenotome shall be in accordance with Defense Personnel Support Center (DPSC) Drawing No. 20310 for style, design and dimensions.
Blades. The adenotome shall be supplied with two blades.
Finish. The adenotome shall have a mirror or mirror and satin finish.
Passivation. The adenotome shall be properly passivated.
Corrosion resistance. The adenotome shall show no evidence of corrosion or plating of copper when tested in accordance with ASTM F1089.
