HUMIDIFIER, INHALATION THERAPY APPARATUS
(Plastic, Disposable, Heat & Moisture Exchanger Type)
The General Services Administration has authorized the use of this Commercial Item Description.
This Commercial Item Description covers a patient heat and moisture exchanger for use as a humidifier during patient mechanical ventilation.
Salient Characteristics:
The humidifier shall be an adult, plastic, disposable, artificial nose type apparatus and shall be suitable for use in inhalation therapy. It shall be suitable for use as a heat and moisture exchanger. It shall be designed for use in intensive care and anesthesia settings during patient mechanical ventilation.
The humidifier shall be a corrugated plastic flex-tube, approximately 20 cm long, which shall recycle patient heat and moisture. The patient side of the tube shall be standard 15 mm inside diameter and the equipment side shall be standard 22 mm inside diameter in accordance with ASTM F 1054.
The humidifier shall be designed to allow the corrugated plastic tube to fit any type ventilator meeting International Standards Organization (ISO) 5356-1, Anaesthetic and Respiratory/ICU Departments.
The humidifier shall be in accordance with the appropriate International Standards Organization (ISO) standard for heat and moisture exchangers (see Note 1 at end of this document).
The humidifier shall be internally impregnated with an antibacterial agent and individually wrapped in a heat sealed package. The package shall contain directions for use. Packaging and labeling shall be that usually furnished by the
