COMMERCIAL ITEM DESCRIPTION
NEEDLE, HYPODERMIC, MALLEABLE,
SPINAL PUNCTURE (LEMMON)
The General Services Administration has authorized the use of this Commercial Item Description as a replacement for Military Specification MIL-N-36220A which is cancelled.
This commercial item description covers malleable spinal puncture needles of the Lemmon design, which are interchangeable with, and which fit the appropriate connections of the Lemmon spinal anesthesia set used with continuous spinal anesthesia.
Salient Characteristics:
General. The needles shall be of the following sizes:
Size 1 – 18 Gage, 3-1/2 Inch
Size 2 – 18 Gage, 4 Inch
Size 3 – 19 Gage, 4 Inch
The spinal puncture consists of a needle with integral hub and a stylet with an integral knob.
Material. The needle cannula and stylet wire shall be malleable and fabricated from nickel silver or, as an alternate, Class 3 austenitic stainless steel in accordance with ASTM Designation F899. The needle cannula and stylet wire shall not be plated. The needle hub and stylet knob shall be fabricated from nickel-plated brass.
Style, design and dimensions. The hypodermic needle shall be in accordance with Defense Personnel Support Center (DPSC) Drawing No. 20482 for style, design and dimensions.
Cannula. The cannula shall be securely attached to and concentric with the hub. The needle cannula shall be attached so the cleaning wire can be readily inserted and so as to not cause accumulation.
Hub. The hub shall be Luer lock in accordance with ANSI/HIMA MD70.1.
