COMMERCIAL ITEM DESCRIPTION
CANNULA, TRACHEOTOMY, UNIVERSITY OF KANSAS DESIGN
The General Services Administration has authorized the use of this Commercial Item Description as a replacement for Military Specification MIL-C-36672 (1) which is cancelled.
This Commercial Item Description covers metal tracheotomy cannulae of the University of Kansas design for use in performing cricothyroidotomy.
Salient characteristics:
General. The tracheotomy cannulae shall be of the University of Kansas design, used in performing cricothyroidotomy. All inner tubes and outer sleeves shall be interchangeable with each other within the given size. The tracheotomy cannulae shall be of the following sizes:
Size I – Adult
Size II – Pediatric
Material. All components of the tracheotomy cannulae shall be fabricated from types 302 or 304, class 3 stainless steel in accordance with ASTM F899. As an alternate, inner tube and outer sleeve shall be fabricated from types 316, 317, class 3 stainless steel in accordance with ASTM F899.
Hardness. The tracheotomy cannulae shall have a Rockwell Hardness of B75 minimum when tested in accordance with ASTM E18 or E92, whichever is applicable. Conversion of hardness values shall be in accordance with ASTM E140.
