COMMERCIAL ITEM DESCRIPTION
RETRACTOR, MASTOID, JANSEN, 3-VS-3, BLUNT PRONGS
The General Services Administration has authorized the use of this Commercial Item Description as a replacement for Military Specification MIL-R-37544 which is cancelled.
This Commercial Item Description covers one type of mastoid retractor, suitable for use in surgical procedures.
Salient characteristics:
General. The retractor shall be of the Jansen design, double-hooked, blunt teeth, toggle handle design and suitable for retraction of musculature surrounding the mastoid bone during surgical procedures. The arms of the retractor shall be interchangeable from left to right socket position of the handle.
Material. The retractor shall be fabricated shall be class 4 martensitic corrosion-resistant steel in accordance with ASTM F899.
Hardness. The retractor shall have a Rockwell Hardness C (HRC) scale of C40 to C47 when tested in accordance with ASTM E18 or E92, whichever is applicable. Conversion of hardness values shall be in accordance with ASTM E140.
Style, design and dimensions. The retractor shall be in accordance with Defense Personnel Support Center (DPSC) Drawing No. 10110 for style, design and dimensions.
Finish. The retractor shall have a mirror, satin, or matte finish. The finish shall be uniform and free from cracks, pits, crevices, burrs, grind or tool marks and dirt or polishing materials.
Passivation. The retractor shall be properly passivated.
