SPECULUM, VAGINAL, Plastic
The General Services Administration has authorized the use of this commercial item description.
This commercial item description covers a medium size, disposable, adjustable vaginal speculum suitable for use in gynecological procedures.
Salient Characteristics:
General. The vaginal speculum shall be clear, medium size, and have a 5 inch blade.
Material. The vaginal speculum shall be fabricated from suitable, clear, rigid, polystyrene material. The speculum shall not be lubricated.
Style, design and dimensions. The vaginal speculum shall be designed to permit the examining physician to adjust to and hold any of the three open positions as a minimum. These open positions shall be approximately 7/8, 1-3/4, and 2-3/4 inches between tips of blades. Design of the speculum shall be in accordance with Defense Personnel Support Center (DPSC) Drawing No. 23496 except that added open position adjustments over the minimum three open positions are optional. The handle shall be designed to accept and retain a halogen light source and shall provide an integral light path on the lower blade to illuminate the vagina.
Breakage. The speculum shall not crack, break, unlock or sustain any damage when subjected to the breakage test.
Biological test. The speculum shall meet the biological requirements for Class III plastics specified in the USP.
Instructions. Instructions for use shall be provided with each unit.
