COMMERCIAL ITEM DESCRIPTION
HYPODERMIC INJECTION APPARATUS
(Jet, Automatic, Gas Pressure Power Source)
The General Services Administration has authorized the use of this Interim Commercial Item Description which was developed by the Defense Personnel Support Center, Directorate of Medical Material, DPSC-RST, 2800 South 20th Street, Philadelphia, PA 19101, based upon currently available technical information.
This interim commercial item description covers a hypodermic injection apparatus powered by carbon dioxide gas to produce a jet action for multiple inoculations in humans or animals.
Salient characteristics:
General. The hypodermic injection apparatus shall be used for rapidly injecting subcutaneously or intramuscularly metered quantities of vaccine from 0.5 to 1.0 ml. The apparatus shall have the following components:
One power unit
Two medicinal heads
Two sets of vial holders
One gas connection with gage
Four nozzle assemblies
One intra-dermal spacer
One long handle
One short handle
One carrying case
Characteristics. The power unit assembly shall be a gun-type unit with a non-slip handle grip and shall have a spring loaded device to engage and disengage the medicinal head. The unit shall have 20 dosing blades, each representing 0.05 ml. Each blade shall be capable of being moved independently to the right for dosage selection. The power unit assembly shall have a trigger for initiating propulsion action of the unit and a safety catch. Each power unit shall be furnished with a long and a short handle. The long handle shall be designed to administer injections using 16 gram carbon dioxide cartridges. The short handle shall be designed to hold the unit when assembling the device to a carbon dioxide cylinder.
