COMMERCIAL ITEM DESCRIPTION
MASK, ORONASAL
The General Services Administration has authorized the use of this commercial item description in preference to Military Specification MIL-A-16040A.
This commercial item description covers four (4) sizes of oronasal masks of two (2) types. These masks are used in conjunction with the standard anesthesia apparatus utilized by the military services.
Salient characteristics:
Masks shall be constructed of molded conductive rubber, and with the exception of the infant size, be reinforced with metallic construction to facilitate reshaping when required. Masks shall be inflatable by means of a valve to control degree of inflation. The exterior surface of the masks shall be coated with conductive synthetic rubber capable of resisting degradation from the effects of ozone and repeated sterilization. All masks shall be equipped with suitable hardware for permitting the use of a headstrap in order to keep the mask firmly on the face of the patient. The overall design and dimensions shall be in accordance with Figure 1. For either Type I or Type II as shown.
All masks shall comply with the National Fire Protection Association (NFPA) Standard 56 A (Standard for the Use of Inhalation Anesthetics) and Underwriters’ Laboratories, Inc., (UL) requirements regarding fire and casualty hazards. Evidence that the item meets UL requirements shall be shown by the attachment of a stamp, label, seal or certificate. The contracting agency reserves the right to require submission of a laboratory test report used for substantiating conformance. Masks shall withstand the accelerated aging test described herein without becoming tacky, brittle or decreasing in tensile strength by more than 25 percent.
