COMMERCIAL ITEM DESCRIPTION
CONNECTOR, ELASTIC TUBING
The General Services Administration has authorized the use of this commercial item description.
This commercial item description covers Y-shaped plastic connectors suitable for use with flexible tubing in laboratory and surgical procedures.
Salient characteristics:
The connector shall be fabricated of rigid transparent or translucent plastic in accordance with the USP for Class II plastics. The connector shall have no more than 5 parts per million total of extractable barium, calcium and lead. The connector shall be capable of autoclaving at 275oF for 20 minutes without distortion or embrittlement.
The connector shall be shaped in the configuration of a “Y” with each leg circumscribed by at least 3 concentric, equally spaced rings to provide leakproof connection of flexible tubing. Connector sizes and the length of each leg as measured from the center of the Y shall be as specified below (all dimensions in inches).

Workmanship. The connector shall be examined for symmetry of the legs. Flow cannels shall be examined for smoothness and constructions to fluid flow. The connector shall be free from defects which detract from their appearance or impair their serviceability.
