COMMERCIAL ITEM DESCRIPTION
TUBE, DRAINAGE, SURGICAL, THORACIC
The General Services Administration has authorized the use of this commercial item description in preference to Military Specification MIL-T-36589B dated 27 April 1976.
This commercial item description covers a series of sterile, radiopaque, plastic thoracic surgical drainage tubes for use following chest surgery.
Salient characteristics:
Material. Tubes shall be manufactured from transparent polyvinyl chloride plastic.
Style and Design. Tubes shall be supplied, as specified, in the following types and sizes:

Tubes shall be of the dimensions shown in Table I and shall be 19-22 inches in length. Type I tubes shall have the distal 4.5-6.0 inches formed at an angle of 90 degrees relative to the major axis of the tube. The extreme distal end of the tube shall be open with smooth and beveled edges. The diameter of the opening on the distal end shall be a minimum of 65 percent of the inside diameter of the tube.
