SUCTION SET, TRACHEAL
The General Services Administration has authorized the use of this commercial item description.
This commercial item description covers two sizes of disposable, sterile tracheobronchial suction sets.
Salient characteristics:
Sizes. Sets shall be provided, as specified, with catheters of the following sizes:

General. The set shall consist of one catheter, one solution tray, and one glove.
Catheter. The catheter shall consist of transparent flexible tubing 51 plus or minus (±) 2 centimeters (cm) in length attached to a tubing adapter. The tubing shall have a whistle tip on the distal end. The opening of the whistle tip shall be 0.25 to 0.35 cm in diameter. The opening shall have smooth edges. In addition, the distal end of the tubing shall have one or two side eyes. The side eye shall be within 1 cm of the distal tip, and shall have a cross sectional area of 0.6 to 0.9 cm. The tubing adapter shall have a thumb control port raised 0.5 to 1.0 cm above the surface of the adapter. The port shall consist of a flange 2.0 ± 0.5 cm by 1.5 ± 0.5 cm with an elongated opening to the adapter lumen in the center of the flange. The cross-sectional area of the opening shall be 1.5 to 2.2 times that of the adapter lumen. The proximal end of the tubing adapter shall make a secure connection with 1/4 to 5/16 inch inside diameter plastic tubing.
