COMMERCIAL ITEM DESCRIPTION
TUBES, TRACHEAL, MAGILL
The General Services Administration has authorized the use of this commercial item description in preference to Military Specification MIL-T-36145 (Bu Med), 16 October 1963.
This commercial item description covers sterile, plastic Magill type tracheal tubes.
Salient characteristics:
General. Tracheal tubes shall meet all requirements of American National Standards Institute (ANSI) Standard Z79.14 for uncuffed
Magill-type tracheal tubes with the exceptions specified herein.
Tracheal tubes shall be capable of chemical disinfectant or steam sterilization, or sterilization with boiling water. The recommended method of sterilization shall be marked on the unit package in accordance with ANSI Standard 229.14.
Sterility. Tracheal tube shall be sterile. Sterility shall be tested in accordance with the current edition of the United States Pharmacopeia (USP).
Biocompatibility (inertness). Plastic used in the manufacture of the tubing shall be tested for biocompatibility in accordance with the requirements for Class IV plastics of the current USP.
Workmanship. Tracheal tubes shall be uniform in quality and free from any defects which affect the appearance or utility of the tube. Tracheal tubes shall be free from foreign matter, embedded particles or air, burrs, flashing, rough or sharp areas, cracks, and other defects.
PRODUCT QUALITY LEVEL
Visual and dimensional examination. Tracheal tubes shall be
examined to determine compliance with specification requirements.
Unit. Package (PG). One package containing 10 tracheal tubes constitutes one unit. The tubes shall be individually packaged sterile in a peel-open type container capable of maintaining the sterility of the contents unless the package is damaged or opened.
