COMMERCIAL ITEM DESCRIPTION
RETRACTOR, GENERAL, SENN
The General Services Administration has authorized the use of this Commercial Item Description.
This commercial item description covers a retractor of the Senn-Kanavel design suitable for ear, nasal and general surgical procedures.
Salient characteristics.
Style and design. The retractor shall be of the Senn-Kanavel design with the proximal end of the instrument a slightly curved grip, and the distal end composed of three sharp prongs. The design and dimensions shall comply with Figure 1.
Material. The retractor shall be manufactured from Class 4 martensitic corrosion-resisting steel as specified in American Society for Testing and Materials (ASTM) Standard F899.
Hardness. The complete instrument shall be properly passivated and have a hardness of Rockwell C40 to C47 after stress relieving when tested in accordance with ASTM E18 or E92.
Finish. The instrument shall have a matte or satin finish. The finish shall be uniform and free from grind or tool marks.
Markings. The retractor shall bear the manufacturer�s name or registered trademark and the word �stainless�. Instrument of foregn manufacture shall bear the name of the country of manufacture.
