CANNULA, EAR, (Baron)
The General Services Administration has authorized the use of this commercial item description.
This commercial item description covers curved Baron ear cannula for use during surgical procedures.
Salient characteristics:
Material. The Baron ear cannula shall be fabricated from class 3 austenitic stainless steel or class 4 martensitic stainless steel in accordance with ASTM F899.
Hardness. Cannula fabricated from austenitic stainless steel shall have a Rockwell hardness of B-75 to B-110. Cannula fabricated from martensitic stainless steel shall have a Rockwell hardness of c-46 to C-53. The cannula shall be tested for hardness in accordance with ASTM E18, or ASTM E92 and E140.
Finish. The finish shall be satin or mirror in accordance with Federal Specification GG-I-526.
Passivation. The cannula shall be properly passivated.
Corrosion-resistance. The cannula shall meet the boil test requirements as specified in GG-I-526. Should the cannula be fabricated from martensitic steel, it shall meet the copper sulfate test requirements of GG-I-526.
Style and design. The cannula shall have a finger tip control on the shaft. At the proximal end, the cannula shall have an enlarged section suitable for connection of tubing. Both the finger device and the tube connector shall be brazed onto the cannula shaft. The bypass hole on the finger device shall have the same cross sectional area as the inside of the cannula shaft. The ear cannula shall meet the dimensional requirements specified in Figure 1.
Marking. Cannula shall bear the name or registered trademark of the manufacturer, the word “stainless” and the French size. Instruments of foreign manufacture shall bear the name of the country of manufacture.
