COMMERCIAL ITEM DESCRIPTION
FORCEPS, DRESSING (Adson)
The General Services Administration has authorized the use of this commercial item description.
This commercial item description covers Adson dressing forceps suitable for use in general surgical procedures.
Salient characteristics:
General. The forceps shall be an Adson style dressing forceps having serrated jaws and crosswise grooves or serrations on the handle. The tip shall be aligned to provide a precise meeting of the points.
Material. The dressing forceps shall be manufactured from Class 4 martensitic corrosion-resisting steel as specified in American Society for Testing and Materials (ASTM) Designation F899.
Hardness. The complete instrument shall be properly passivated and shall have a Rockwell Hardness C Scale (HRC) of 40 to 45 at the jaws. The hardness shall be tested in accordance with ASTM Designation E18 or ASTM Designations E92 and E140.
Style, design and dimension. Style, design and dimensions of the forceps shall comply with Figure 1.
Markings. The forceps shall bear the contractor’s name or registered trademark and the word “stainless.” Forceps of foreign manufacture shall bear the name of the country of manufacture.
