FORCEPS, EYE, SUTURE, ANGULAR
The General Services Administration has authorized the use of this commercial item description.
This commercial item description covers an eye suture forceps suitable for microsurgery.
Salient characteristics:
General. The eye suture forceps shall have an angular tip suitable for fine suture tying during ophthalmic microsurgery.
Style and design. Forceps shall have a wide handle with serrations for finger grip. Forceps shall be as shown in Figure 1.
Material .Forceps shall be fabricated of martensitic corrosion-resistant steel in accordance with ASTM F899.
Passivation. Forceps shall be passivated.
Corrosion resistance. Forceps shall show no corrosion when subjected to the boil test and copper sulfate test as specified in GG-I-526.
Hardness. Forceps shall be hardened and have a Rockwell hardness of C-40 to C-48 when tested in accordance with ASTM E18, or E92 and E140.
Finish. Forceps shall have a mirror or satin finish.
Identification markings. The forceps shall bear the manufacturer’s name or registered trademark and the word “stainless.” Instrument of foreign manufacture shall bear the name of the country of manufacture.
Workmanship. The forceps shall be free from defects which detract from their appearance or impair its serviceability.
