The General Services Administration has authorized the use of this commercial item description.
This commercial item description covers a sterile 30 gage disposable hypodermic needle.
Salient characteristics:
The needle is a 30 gage by 1/2 inch (1.3 cm) hypodermic needle, the hub of which shall be in accordance with ANSI/HIMA MD70.1 and have a beige color. The cannula shall be made of Type 304 austenitic stainless steel in accordance with ASTM Designation F099. The hub shall be made of polypropylene and be permanently affixed to the cannula. The hub and adhesive shall be free from all elutable toxic materials. The cannula exterior shall be coated with an inert, non-toxic silicone lubricant. The cannula length shall be 1/2 +/- 3/32 inch. The needle shall be free from foreign matter, chips and burrs. There shall be no separation of the cannula from the hub under a 5 lb. tensile load sustained for one minute (See Note 3). The needle shall be pryogen-free and non-toxic in accordance with the USP. The needle shall be sterile and contained in an individual sealed, sterile package.
