COMMERCIAL ITEM DESCRIPTION
FORCEPS, MAXILLARY DISIMPACTION Rowe’s Design
The General Services Administration has authorized the use of this Commercial Item Description.
This commercial item description covers maxillary disimpaction forceps suitable for use in oral, maxilla-facial surgery.
Salient characteristics:
General. The left hand Rowe forceps shall be style 1. The right hand Rowe forceps shall be style2.
Material. The forceps shall be fabricated from Class 4 corrosion resistant steel in accordance with ASTM Designation F899.
Hardness. The forceps shall have a Rockwell hardness C scale (HRC) of 48 to 54 when tested in accordance with ASTM E18 or E92 whichever is applicable. Conversion of hardness values shall be in accordance with ASTM E140.
Style and design. The forceps shall be in accordance with Defense Personnel Support Center (DPSC) Drawing No. 24556 for style, design and dimension. The forceps shall weigh 3-3/4 oz. ± 1/4 oz.
Finish. The forceps shall have a matte or satin finish. The matte finish shall exhibit a uniform nondirectional surface texture equivalent to that produced by lightly blasting the prepared surface with fine abrasive under pressure. The finish shall be uniform and free from sharp edges, grind or tool marks, burrs, chips, cracks, pitting and crevices.
Passivation. The forceps shall be properly passivated.
