COMMERCIAL ITEM DESCRIPTION
CANNULA SET, LACHRYMAL
The General Services Administration has authorized the use of this commercial item description in preference to MIL-C-37127 dated 6 May 1975.
This commercial item description covers three lachrymal cannulae suitable for introduction into the lachrymal duct.
Salient characteristics:
The cannula set shall consist of one plain straight cannula, and one reinforced curved cannula. Each cannula shall be supplied with a cleaning wire. The hubs of the cannulae shall be of the female Luer lock type in accordance with ANSI-HIMA MD70.1. The hubs shall be capable of engaging with Luer lock and Luer slip syringes. The hubs shall be shaped not to roll and to provide a satisfactory finger grip for attachment to syringe. Each cannula shall be in accordance with DPSC Drawing No. 24352.
The cannulae and cleaning wires shall be fabricated from austenitic corrosion-resistant steel in accordance with ASTM F899. The hubs and extension members may be fabricated from chromium-over-nickel plated copper alloy. All components fabricated from corrosion-resistant steel shall be properly passivated. The finish shall be bright and smooth. After proper hardening, the hardness of the cannula shall be Rockwell B-75, minimum.
Workmanship. The cannula set shall be free from defects which detract from its appearance or impair its serviceability.
Unit. Set (SE). One set of 3 cannulae, as specified, constitutes one unit.
