COMMERCIAL ITEM DESCRIPTION
FORCEPS, EAR (Oval Cup, House)
The General Services Administration has authorized the use of this commercial item description.
This commercial item description covers a House-style oval cup ear forceps used for microsurgical procedures.
Salient characteristics:
General. The jaws of the forceps shall be 4 mm long, angled 15 degrees to the right or left, and have smooth edges. The shaft handle junction shall be designed for easy unlocking and effective clearing. The definition of the terms and components used in this specification are in accordance with ASTM F921. Performance shall be in accordance with applicable requirements of ASTM F1026.
Material. The material of the ear forceps shall be Class 4 corrosion-resistant steel in accordance with ASTM F899.
Hardness. The ear forceps shall have a Rockwell hardness of C-47 to C-52. The hardness shall be tested in accordance with ASTM Standard E18 or ASTM Standards E92 and E140.
Style and design and dimensions. The forceps shall be in accordance with Defense Personnel Support Center (DPSC) Drawing 24555.
Finish. The finish of the forceps shall be mirror, satin or matte. The matte finish shall exhibit a uniform nondirectional surface texture equivalent to that produced by lightly blasting the prepared surface with fine abrasives under pressure.
Boil test. The forceps shall meet the boil test requirements specified in Federal Specification GG-I-526.
Copper sulfate test. The forceps shall meet the copper sulfate test requirements specified in GG-I-526.
