COMMERCIAL ITEM DESCRIPTION
SPLINT, FINGER
The General Services Administration has authorized the use of this commercial item description as a replacement for Military Specification MIL-S-37222 which will be cancelled.
This commercial item description covers a malleable aluminum finger splint, with foam backing, suitable for protection and immobilization of fractures and/or dislocations of the fingers.
Salient characteristics:
Shall be a malleable aluminum finger splint, with plastic foam backing, suitable for molding to the anatomical configuration of the fingers to provide protection and immobilization of fractures and/or dislocations.
The aluminum strip shall have dimensions of 18 ± 1/8 inches (45.72 ± 0.32 cm) long, 3/4 ± 1/16 inches (1.9 ± 0.16 cm) wide, and 0.040 ± 0.002 inches (0.100 ± 0.005 cm) thick. Shall have a mill, bright mill or clear anodized finish. Corners of the strip shall be rounded, and all edges shall be dulled.
The plastic foam backing shall be 1/4 ± 1/32 inches (0.64 ± 0.08 cm) thick and shall be attached to the aluminum strip by an integral adhesive backing, by direct bonding, or by a carrier strip coated on both sides with a pressure sensitive adhesive. The backing shall compress and recover to stabilize the splint.
The splint shall be capable of being cut with ordinary scissors.
The splint shall be x-ray penetratable.
Workmanship. The splint shall be free from defects which detract from its appearance or impair its serviceability.
