COMMERCIAL ITEM DESCRIPTION
CLAMP, ARTERY, BULLDOG (DEBAKEY)
The General Services Administration has authorized the use of this commercial item description.
This commercial item description covers bulldog clamps of the DeBakey design suitable for use in temporary occlusion of major peripheral arteries.
Salient characteristics:
General. The clamp shall have either straight (Type I) or curved (Type II) jaws which are atraumatic and 1-3/16 inch (3.0 cm) long. The clamp shall have a cross-action mechanism and be 3-5/32 inches (8.5 cm) long overall. The clamp shall have a single row of serrated teeth opposing a double row of serrated teeth.
Material. The material of the clamp shall be Class 4 corrosion-resistant steel in accordance with ASTM Designation F899.
Style, design and dimensions. The clamp shall be in accordance with Defense Personnel Support Center (DPSC) Drawing No. 22239.
Hardness. The clamp shall have a Rockwell Hardness C scale (HRC) of 40 to 47 when tested in accordance with ASTM Designations E18 or E92 whichever is applicable. Conversion of hardness values shall be in accordance with ASTM Designation E140.
Finish. The clamp shall have a non-reflective, satin or matte finish. The matte finish shall exhibit a uniform nondirectional surface texture equivalent to that produced by lightly blasting the prepared surface with fine abrasives under pressure.
