COMMERCIAL ITEM DESCRIPTION
SCRAPER, UTERINE, CERVICAL (Ayre, 7 Inch)
The General Services Administration has authorized the use of this commercial item description.
This commercial item description covers a wooden scraper suitable for obtaining a cell biopsy from the squamo-columnar junction at the cervix.
Salient characteristics:
General. The item shall be a uterine scraper Ayre design, with one end specially shaped for use in obtaining tissue specimen of the squamo-columnar junction of the cervix and the other end spatula shaped for scraping exuded or multiporous cervix.
Material. The scraper shall be fabricated from a durable, flexible, well-seasoned wood, of the highest quality, such as white birch, suitable for the use intended.
Construction. The scraper shall be in accordance to Defense Personnel Support Center (DPSC) Drawing No. 20511. All radii shall be smoothly blended” and no sharp radii shall be acceptable.
Finish. The scraper shall be smoothly finished, clean, free from foreign matter and fungus. The scraper shall be free from splinters; burrs, cracks, holes, pits, dry rot, warpness, rough edges, sharp edges, tissues, tool marks and pitch pockets.
Moisture content. The moisture content of the finished scrapers shall range from 6 to 12 percent when tested in accordance with ASTM Designation D143.
Workmanship. Scrapers shall be free from defects which detract from their appearance or impair their serviceability.
Unit. Package (PG). One package containing 500 scrapers, as specified, constitutes one unit.
