COMMERCIAL ITEM DESCRIPTION
FORCEPS, EYE MUSCLE, Angular (Jameson)
The General Services Administration has authorized the use of this commercial item description.
This commercial item description covers an angular eye muscle forceps of the Jameson design used in surgery of the eye.
Salient Characteristics:
General. The forceps shall be an eye muscle forceps, angled, with slide lock type handle, Jameson design and have a working length of approximately four inches.
Material. The material of the forceps shall be Class 4 corrosion resistant steel for the shanks and blades in accordance with ASTM F899.
Hardness. The elevator shall have a Rockwell Hardness C scale (HRC) of 40 to 47 when tested in accordance with ASTM E18 or E92 whichever is applicable. Conversion of hardness values shall be in accordance with ASTM E140.
Style, design and dimensions. The forceps shall be in accordance with Defense Personnel Support Center (DPSC) Drawing No. 24568 for style, design and dimensions.
Finish. The forceps shall have a mirror, satin or matte finish. The matte finish shall exhibit a uniform nondirectional surface texture equivalent to that produced by lightly blasting the prepared surface with fine abrasives under pressure.
Passivation. The elevator shall be properly passivated.
Performance. The teeth shall be conical and fit into perforations without binding. The sliding lock shall be tapered and maintain the jaws in the closed position without unintentionally unlocking.
