COMMERCIAL ITEM DESCRIPTION
FORCEPS, ENDOSCOPIC, Globular Object Grasping (Jackson)
The General Services Administration has authorized the use of this commercial item description.
This commercial item description covers a globular object endoscopic forceps of the Jackson design, suitable for use in endoscopic procedures.
Salient characteristics:
General. Shall be cannulated endoscopic forceps of the Jackson design, with a 60 cm working length, having the following size and style:
Size 1 style 1 shall fit through endoscopes 5 mm or larger and shall have cup-shaped, fenestrated jaws. As an alternate for size 1 style 1, the jaws may not be fenestrated.
Size 2 style 2 shall fit through endoscopes 9 mm or larger and shall have disc-shape, fenestrated jaws.
The box lock instrument shall have jaws which are shaped and set to provide a secure grip on the globular object being removed.
Material. The jaws and box lock portion shall be fabricated from Class 4 martensitic corrosion-resistant steel in accordance with ASTM Designation F 899. The cannulated tube shall be fabricated from Class 4 steel or Class 3 austenitic stainless steel in accordance with ASTM Designation F899.
Hardness. The jaws shall have a Rockwell Hardness C scale (HRC) of 48 to 53 in accordance with ASTM Designations E18 or E92. Conversion of Vickers hardness values to Rockwell values shall be in accordance with ASTM Designation E140. The hardness of the tube shall be Rockwell B75 minimum. The remainder of the instrument shall be Rockwell C40 to C47.
