COMMERCIAL ITEM DESCRIPTION
FORCEPS, BIOPSY, NASAL-ETHMOID, (Watson-Williams)
The General Services Administration has authorized the use of this commercial item description.
This commercial item description covers a Watson-Williams nasal-ethmoid biopsy forceps suitable for use in nasal surgery.
Salient Characteristics:
General. The forceps shall be of the Watson-Williams design with finger rings on the proximal end and have an alligator jaw with an oval shaped cutting basket on the distal end. The forceps shall disassemble at the hinge pin for cleaning.
Material. The material of the forceps shall be Class 4 corrosion-resistant steel in accordance with ASTM Designation F899.
Style, design and dimensions. The forceps shall be in accordance with Defense Personnel Support Center (DPSC) Drawing No. 24466 for style, design and dimensions.
Hardness. The forceps shall have a Rockwell Hardness C scale (HRC) of 50 to 55 when tested in accordance with ASTM Designations E18 or E92 whichever is applicable. Conversion of hardness values shall be in accordance with ASTM Designation E140.
Finish. The forceps shall be mirror, satin or matte finish. The matte finish shall exhibit a uniform nondirectional surface texture equivalent to that produced by lightly blasting the prepared surface with fine abrasives under pressure.
Passivation. The forceps shall be properly passivated.
Corrosion resistance. The forceps shall show no evidence of corrosion of plating of copper when tested in accordance with ASTM Designation F1089.
