COMMERCIAL ITEM DESCRIPTION
TUBE, SUCTION, SURGICAL, PLASTIC, Disposable
The General Services Administration has authorized the use of this Commercial Item Description.
This Commercial Item Description covers a one type of plastic surgical suction tube suitable for suctioning procedures where a sterile tube is required.
Salient characteristics:
General. The suction tube shall be sterile, disposable and non-conductive. The tube shall be used for applying a vacuum to suction instruments and other devices, which remove fluids and gases from” a patient during and after surgery to a collection device.
Material. The suction tube shall consist of clear, plastic, nonconductive tubing. The tube shall have a minimal coil memory for good drapeability in sterility fields.
Style and design. The suction tube shall have molded female connector ends and a plastic male connector in order to permit connection to other tubing. The tubing connectors shall make mechanically secure and leakproof connection with other tubing connections.
The suction tube shall meet these additional requirements:
Inside Diameter - 9/32 ± 1/64 inches (7.0 mm ± 0.4 mm)
Nominal Length - 12 feet
Minimum Breaking Strength - 25 pounds
Minimum Ultimate Elongation - 100 percent
Collapsibility - shall not collapse in vacuum of 22 inches of mercury applied for 24 hours
Biocompatibility - Class IV plastic of the United States Pharmacopoeia (USP) applies
