FORCEPS, BONE HOLDING (Curved)
The General Services Administration has authorized the use of this commercial item description.
This commercial item description covers a bone holding forceps suitable for use during orthopedic surgical procedures.
Salient Characteristics:
General. The forceps shall be a curved bone holding forceps with pointed distal ends. The forceps shall be suitable for use during orthopedic surgical procedures and the reduction of large bones. The definitions of the terms and components used in this specification are in accordance with ASTM Designation F921.
Material. The forceps shall be manufactured from Class 4 corrosion-resistant steel in accordance with ASTM Designation F899.
Hardness. The forceps shall have a Rockwell Hardness C Scale (HRC) of 4o to 52. The hardness shall be tested in accordance with ASTM Designation 18 or ASTM Designations E92 and E140.
Style, design and dimensions. The forceps shall be in accordance with Defense Personnel Support Center (DPSC) Drawing No. 22292.
Finish. The forceps shall have a mirror, satin, or matte finish. The matte finish shall exhibit a uniform non-directional surface texture equivalent to that produced by lightly blasting the prepared surface with fine abrasives under pressure.
Corrosion resistance. The forceps shall show no evidence of corrosion or plating of copper when tested in accordance with ASTM F1089.
