COMMERCIAL ITEM DESCRIPTION
CUP, EARPHONE, AUDIOMETER
The General Services Administration has authorized the use of this Commercial Item Description.
This Commercial Item Description covers a pair of audiometric enclosures suitable for reducing the level of background noise during audiometric test procedures.
Salient Characteristics:
The audiometric earphone cup shall be an audiometric enclosure, supplied in pairs, to reduce the level of background noise reaching the ears of the subject during audiometric test procedures. The enclosures shall have sufficient noise exclusion in order the pure tone audiometry can be successfully conducted in ambient noise environments where masking of thresholds would occur if conventional audiometric headsets were used. The enclosures shall be designed for installation on the earphones without the necessity of recalibrating the instrument providing that the audiometer is in proper calibration.
The enclosure shall be suitably insulated and constructed to produce sufficient noise attenuation in areas where ambient noise levels are high enough to mask pure tone (audiometric) booth. Each enclosure shall be fitted with a suitable plastic sealing cushion to exclude air conduction of ambient noise from the subject’s ears.
The enclosures shall be capable of providing at least the flat plate and real head noise attenuation listed below for each condition of background noise (in terms of decibel level and octave band frequency) at pure tone (audiometer) frequency indicated:
