COMMERCIAL ITEM DESCRIPTION
HOLDER, SUTURE NEEDLE (HEGAR-MAYO)
The General Services Administration has authorized the use of this Commercial Item Description as a replacement for Military Specification MIL-H-37236A which is cancelled.
This Commercial Item Description covers a Hegar-Mayo design suture needle holder
Salient characteristics:
General. The suture needle holders shall be of the Hegar-Mayo design and be suitable for use in grasping suture needles during surgery. The suture needle holders shall be of the following sizes:

Material. The suture needle holders shall be fabricated from class 4, martensitic corrosion-resistant steel in accordance with ASTM F899. Jaw insert shall be fabricated of tungsten carbide material.
Hardness. The suture needle holders shall have a Rockwell Hardness C Scale (HRC) of C40 to C45 when tested in accordance with ASTM E18 or E92 whichever is applicable. The tungsten carbide jaw insert shall have a Rockwell Hardness A Scale (HRA) of A80 minimum in accordance with ASTM E18 or E92 whichever is applicable. Conversion of hardness values shall be in accordance with ASTM E140.
