DRAINAGE KIT, CLOSED SUCTION

This commercial item description covers two sizes of drainage kits for suction of closed wounds. Each kit consists of a suction reservoir and a Jackson-Pratt style surgical drain.
Salient Characteristics:
Material. The drain and reservoir shall be fabricated from a silicone rubber compound. The reservoir material shall be transparent to view graduations from the opposite side of reservoir.
Drain. The drain shall consist of a length of round tubing bonded to a flattened section. The drain shall be of the following sizes:

The tubing shall be 79 ± 8 cm in length and shall have an inside diameter of 2.4 to 3.2 mm (3/32 to 1/8 inch). The flattened section shall have 3 to 4 rows of perforations into the lumen of the drain with a minimum of 60 perforations. The perforations shall be 1 to 2 mm in diameter. The rows if perforations shall be placed within the distal 75 percent of the flattened section. The flattened section shall be radiopaque throughout its length and shall have ribs on the inside surface. The juncture of the tubing to the flattened section shall be smoothly tapered to facilitate atraumatic withdrawal of the drain from a wound.
