TUBE, FEEDING, SURGICAL
The General Services Administration has authorized the use of this commercial item description.
This commercial item description describes a disposable feeding tube with a weighted tungsten tip.
Salient characteristics. The disposable feeding tube shall be nonsterile and individually packaged to protects its cleanliness. The feeding tube shall be medical grade polyurethane which is biocompatible with body tissue, noncollapsible during aspiration, and lubricated when activated with water. The tube shall be radiopaque with placement markings at 50 and 75 cm (+ or - 2 cm) intervals from the feeding exit port at the distal end. Feeding tube shall be 8 French (2.7 mm), 43 to 45 inches (109.2 to 114.3 cm) long (overall length) terminating with a single feeding exit port and tungsten weight tip. The distal end of the tube shall have a 2.4 to 3.4 gram tungsten weighted bolus which shall be a continuous part of the tubing.
The proximal end of the tube shall be provided with a “Y” irrigation port. One side of the “Y” shall be provided with a universal feeding set connector with a tab for stopping. The other side of the “Y” shall accept a catheter tip syringe and be provided with a tab for stopping.
A pre-inserted flow-through design stylet of stainless spring steel or stainless steel braided material shall be provided. The stylet shall have a blunt end which is designed to prevent the stylet from exiting the feeding port.
Manufacturer’s instruction for use of the feeding tube shall be provided with each tube.
