ADAPTER, CATHETER TO LUER SYRINGE
The General Services Administration has authorized the use of this commercial item description.
This commercial item description covers a metal adapter suitable for connecting a size 6 French, flared catheter to the tip of a Luer-lock syringe.
Salient characteristics:
Shall be a catheter to luer syringe adapter meeting the requirements listed below.
Material. Adapters shall be fabricated from a suitable brass, properly tempered.
Style and design. The style and design of the adapters shall be in accordance with figure 1. The adapters shall have a fitting body and a backing collar. The adapter body shall also contain a female Luer lock conforming to ANSI/HIMA MD70.1. The adapter body shall also contain male end of a 45-degree flare fitting with ¼-32 N.E.F machine threads. The backing collar shall contain the female end of a 45-degree flare fitting with ¼-32 N.E.F machine threads. The exterior of the backing collar shall have a ridged finger-grip area.
Performance. Adapters shall effect a leak-tight connection between Luer-Lock syringe and a size 6 French catheter that was suitably neat-flared prior to insertion in the adapter. Adapters shall pass the performance testing specified herein.
Finish. Adapters shall be nickel-plated on all surfaces. Plating shall conform to QQ-N-290. Except for the finger-grip, adapters shall have a smooth finish overall.
Workmanship. The adapter shall be free from defects which detract from its appearance or impair its serviceability.
Unit. Each (EA). One adapter, as specified, constitutes one unit.
Quality Assurance Provisions.
Responsibility for inspection. Unless otherwise specified in the contract or purchase order, the contractor is responsible for the performance of all inspection requirements as specified herein. Except as otherwise specified in the contract or purchase order, the contractor may use his own or any facilities suitable for the performance of the inspection requirements specified herein, unless disapproved by the Government. The Government reserves the right to perform any of the inspections set forth in the specification where such inspections are deemed necessary to assure supplies and services conform to prescribed requirements.
