COMMERCIAL ITEM DESCRIPTION
APPLICATOR, NASAL, Farrell
The General Services Administration has authorized the use of this Commercial Item Description.
This Commercial Item Description covers a Farrell nasal applicator designed for holding cotton soaked medication.
Salient characteristics:
General. The applicator shall be a Farrell type with a rough-twist end, designed for holding cotton soaked medication on the tip for use during nasal procedures.
Material. The applicator shall be fabricated of Class 3 austenitic corrosion-resistant steel in accordance with the American Society for Testing and Materials (ASTM) F899.
Hardness. The applicator shall have a Rockwell hardness B scale (HRB) of 80 to 95 when tested in accordance with ASTM E18 or ASTM E92 and E140.
Style and design. The applicator shall have an overall length of 5-1/2 ± 1/4 inches. The working length of the applicator shall be 3-1/2 ± 1/4 inches. The applicator shall have a 0.11 ± 0.01 inch diameter 1-1/2 inches from the proximal end and a 0.04 ± 0.002 inch diameter 4-1/4 inches from the proximal end.
The rough-twist end shall be 19/32 ± 1/16 inch long and shall be cross-serrated to provide for holding cotton. The working length of the applicator shall be 3-1/2 ± 1/8 inches.
The handle shall be knurled to prevent slippage during use.
Passivation. The applicator shall be properly passivated.
