The medicinal heads shall have a piercing needle with a needle guard, capable of penetrating the rubber cap of a vial. The heads shall be able to undergo standard steam sterilization and accept the spring-loaded nozzle assembly.
The vial holders shall be able to support multiple-dose vials containing at least 10 ml of medication and capable of being attached to the medicinal head. The holders shall maintain the vial in a secure manner.
The nozzle assembly shall have an 0.007 inch orifice and gas connection assembly that contains a standard cylinder adapter for connecting to a carbon dioxide cylinder valve outlet. The gas connection assembly shall have an integral nose with a captive, quick-disconnect connection to the apparatus proper which includes a 0-2000 psi integral pressure gage.
The apparatus shall contain an intra-dermal spacer which can be attached to the end of the injection head.
The unit shall be supplied with a maintenance kit with all the tools necessary to accomplish routine maintenance and minor repairs, instructions for operator and maintenance of the unit, and ten, 16 gram carbon dioxide cartridges (See Note 1).
All components, including the carbon dioxide cartridges, shall be enclosed in a carrying case.
The unit shall be capable of directly operating when connected to a filled carbon dioxide cylinder without needing a reducing valve or pressure regulator.
When subjected to the performance and jet nozzle test, the unit shall fire without failure or leakage around the orifice. The emitted strear shall be free from side spray.
All metal components which come in direct contact with the administered medication shall be fabricated from suitable corrosion-resistant steel, properly hardened and passivated.
Workmanship. The hypodermic injection apparatus shall be free from defects which detract from its appearance or impair its serviceability.
Unit. Each (EA). One hypodermic injection apparatus, as specified, constitutes one unit.
