COMMERCIAL ITEM DESCRIPTION
DEPRESSOR, TONGUE, WOOD
The General Services Administration has authorized the use of this commercial item description in preference to Federal Specification GG-D-226E.
This commercial item description describes a wood tongue depressor for hospital use during oral examination of patients.
Salient characteristics: Material: Good quality maple, birch or similar close clear grained hardwood. The tongue depressor shall have parallel edges with rounded ends. Surfaces shall be smooth and free from splinters, frays, cross grains, knots, or fungus growth. Dimensions: 6” + 1/4" (15.24 cm + 0.64 cm) long, 3/4" + 1/64” (1.91 cm + 0.40 cm) wide, and .070” + .005” (0.18 cm + 0.013 cm) thick. Package/Product must be clean and without holes or tears. Dispenser box of 100’s.
Type I- Sterile, Disposable Individually Packaged. Individual package to be labeled/marked “Sterile” (no strike through or bleeding of the labeling/ marking).
Type II- Nonsterile, Disposable.
Unit. The unit of issue shall be specified in the solicitation.
Workmanship. The depressor, tongue, wood shall be free from defects which detract from its appearance or impair its serviceability.
Metric products. Products manufactured to metric dimensions will be considered on an equal basis with those manufactured using inch-pound units, providing they fall within the tolerances specified using conversion tables contained in the latest revision of Federal Standard 376, and all other requirements of this document are met.
If a product is manufactured to metric dimensions and those dimensions exceed the tolerances specified in the inch-pound units, a request should be made to the contracting officer to determine of the product is acceptable.
The contracting officer has the option of accepting or rejecting the product.
