CRUTCH (Cane Type, Forearm and Elbow)
The General Services Administration has authorized the use of this commercial item description.
This commercial item description covers a cane type aluminum crutch which is used to support disabled persons in walking. The crutch has an adjustable arm support and forearm cuff.
Salient characteristics. CRUTCH, Cane Type, Forearm and Elbow, made of 7/8 inch or 1 inch (2 cm or 2.54 cm) anodized aluminum tubing and/or triple chrome plated nickel steel tubing; front or side opening cuff. Cuff to be stainless steel or plastic/vinyl coated spring steel. Cuff designed to withstand normal use without cracking or breaking. Cuff assembly to be held in place with lock nut and bolt or rivets (if rivets are supplied, must be chrome plated, solid or semi-tubular steel), designed to avoid loosening, twisting or wear. Crutch shall have adjustment capabilities from floor to handle and from handle to cuff. Minimum adjustment range from floor to handgrip 30 to 36 inches. Crutch shall be furnished with precise hole alignments to allow adjusting and locking at varying heights. Crutch shall be furnished with a nonmarring, slip resistant, rubber tip having a concave bottom surface, a metal disc on inside surface of the base section, internally molded reinforcement rings on inside wall and vertically ribbed outside wall to maintain rigidity. Handgrips shall be nonmovable, nonslip, rubber/vinyl and a color closely matching tip and cuff. Manufacturer’s name or trademark must be affixed to the product so as to remain intact and identifiable under normal usage. Each crutch must be capable of supporting 300 lbs. weight. Crutches not to weigh more than 5 lbs. per pair.
Workmanship. Crutch shall be free of burrs and sharp edges or other defects which detract from its appearance or impair its serviceability.
