COMMERCIAL ITEM DESCRIPTION
MIRROR, LARYNGEAL
The General Services Administration has authorized the use of this commercial item description in preference to Federal Specification GG-M-416.
This commercial item description covers a laryngeal mirror used for viewing the larynx and surrounding areas of the throat.
Salient characteristics:
Shall be a laryngeal mirror suitable for medical use in observing the larynx and surrounding areas of the throat. Shall have an approximate overall length of 8-1/2 inches, mounting a plain glass mirror on the distal end at an angle of approximately 35 degrees.

The mirror shall be circular, of uniform thickness; having front and back surfaces flat and even. The back of the mirror shall be thoroughly silvered and sealed to protect the coating. The mirror shall be securely mounted in the mirror holder in such a manner to protect the mirror from damage.
The laryngeal mirror shall show no evidence of corrosion or flaking, blistering, peeling or damage to the silvered mirror surface of loosening of the mirror when boiled in distilled water continuously for 24 hours and dried for one hour at 230oF.
Shall be fabricated of a suitable metal plated with corrosion-resisting metal or fabricated of corrosion-resisting steel properly passivated. The mirror shall be high quality, polished glass, free from waviness and of such composition to withstand prolonged use and frequent neat and chemical sterilization, without dulling surface.
