TAPE, MEASURING, SURGICAL
The General Services Administration has authorized the use of this commercial item description.
This commercial item description covers the requirements for a measuring tape for use in surgery.
Salient characteristics:
Shall be a pocket type measuring tape suitable for use in neurosurgery, orthopedic surgery and physical therapy.
The blade of the tape shall be 72 inches (183 cm) long and 3/8 inch (9.5 mm) wide. One edge of the tape shall be marked at 1/16 inch intervals. The opposite edge shall be marked at every millimeter. The markings shall be numbered at every inch and centimeter.
The blade shall be fabricated of suitable corrosion resisting steel.
The blade shall be self-locking when pulled for measurement. When the release button provided on the case is depressed, the blade shall automatically retract fully in the case without hesitation. The blade shall not deform with repeated pulling and retracting.
The front end of the tape shall be connected to a metal ring to prevent the blade from completely retracting onto the case and for easy handling. The other end shall be permanently secured inside the case.
The case shall be made of chromium plated steel.
Workmanship. The tape shall be free from defects which detract from its appearance or impair its serviceability.
Unit. Each (EA). One measuring tape, as specified, constitutes one unit.
