LARYNGEAL STENTS, Silicone Rubber
The General Services Administration has authorized the use of this commercial item description.
This commercial item description covers molded rubber stents of value in the surgical repair of laryngeal fracture, laryngeal stenosis and subglottic stenosis.
Salient characteristics:
The stents shall be made of silicone elastomer and molded to conform to the inner contour of the larynx. The stents shall be made of a precise hardness to give support without injuring surrounding tissues. Skin or mucosal grafts may be sutured to the stent. A heavy silk suture shall be molded into the stent to form a loop at the top and facilitate removal.
The stent shall be supplied with two silicone rubber suture buttons 12 mm in diameter and 2 mm thick. The dimensions for the stents are as follows:

The stents and buttons shall be able to withstand repeated steam sterilization of 276O (135.5OC). The stents and buttons shall comply with USP Class IV plastic requirements for biological study. All elastomer surfaces shall be smooth, glossy and free from burrs, featners or other surface defects.
Workmanship. The stens shall be free from defects which detract from their appearance or impair its serviceability.
