COMMERCIAL ITEM DESCRIPTION
PROBE, GENERAL OPERATING
The General Services Administration has authorized the use of this Commercial Item Description as a replacement for Military Specification MIL-P-36056A which is cancelled.
This Commercial Item Description covers general operating probes that are suitable for use in surgical operating procedures.
Salient characteristics:
General. The probe shall be straight, with a bulbous tip on the distal end and an eye in the proximal end. The probes shall be suitable for exploring wounds and introducing ligatures and tapes. The probes shall be of the following sizes and lengths:

Material. The probe shall be fabricated from class 3, types 302, 303 or 304 corrosion resisting stainless steel in accordance with ASTM F899.
Hardness. The probe shall have a Rockwell Hardness of B75 to B90 when tested in accordance with ASTM E18 or E92 whichever is applicable. Conversion of hardness values shall be in accordance with ASTM E140.
Style, design and dimension. The probe shall be in accordance with Defense Personnel Support Center (DPSC) Drawing No. 20328 for style, design and dimensions.
