SUTURE, NONABSORBABLE, SURGICAL
Polypropylene, Monofilament, Single Armed
The General Services Administration has authorized the use of this Commercial Item Description.
This commercial item description covers a sterile polypropylene surgical suture suitable for general surgical procedures.
Salient characteristics:
Materials. The suture shall be made of monofilament polypropylene, dyed and uncoated. The needle shall be made of corrosion-resistant steel properly hardened, tempered and passivated.
Design and construction. The suture shall be dyed, uncoated monofilament polypropylene. The suture shall be size 0 and 30 inches (76cm) long. A half-circle needle, with a taper cut and nominal 1-1/2 inches straight length, shall be attached to one end of the suture. The size shall be in accordance with USP limits for diameter. The suture shall have a minimum knot-pull tensile strength of 2.3 kgf at an S-2 inspection level and AQL of 1.5 of MIL-STD-105D. The needle shall be bored and swaged to the suture. One suture shall be in an envelope or packet, the inner container. The inner container shall be contained in an outer container, the packet, designed for peel-back opening. The inner container shall be made of plastic, aluminum foil or aluminum foil-plastic laminate. The inner container and outer envelope shall be hermetically sealed. The outer envelope or packet shall be designed to facilitate ready opening and aseptic deposit of the inner container onto a sterile field. The free fall of the inner container shall not be impeded by sticking or any other cause. The inner container shall permit resterilization in cold sterilization solutions. The suture and inner containers shall be sterile in accordance with the sterility test shown below.
