COMMERCIAL ITEM DESCRIPTION
ANOSCOPE, HIRSCHMAN
The General Services Administration has authorized the use of this commercial item description in preference to Military Specification MIL-A-36051A.
This commercial item description covers medium-size and small-size Hirschman-design anoscopes.
Salient characteristics:
Material. Anoscopes (obturator and speculum) shall be fabricated from Class 3, Type 303 or 304 steel conforming to ASTM (American Society for Testing and Materials (F899, except that the chromium content may be 17.00 to 20.00 percent.
Style and design. Shall be medium size and shall small size Hirschman-design anoscopes conforming to Figure 1. The anoscopes shall consist of an obturator and speculum. The obturator shall consist of a knob, body, and shaft. The knob shall contain an integral lock-pin or key. The shaft-to-knob and shaft-to-body connections shall be permanently secured. The connections shall withstand a 15 lb. tensile load. The speculum shall contain a slot mated to the knob’s key or lock-pin. Fit between obturator and speculum shall be as indicated in Figure 1.
Physical and chemical properties.
Hardness. Anoscopes (obturator and speculum) shall have a Rockwell hardness B75 to B100.
Corrosion-resistance. Anoscopes shall pass the boil test specified in GG-I-526.
Marking requirements. Anoscopes shall conform to the marking requirements of GG-I-526 and Figure 1. Anoscopes of foreign manufacture shall be marked with the legend “stainless”.
