COMMERCIAL ITEM DESCRIPTION
HANDLE-ELECTRODE, ELECTROSURGERY
The General Services Administration has authorized the use of this commercial item description.
This commercial item description covers a disposable, pencil-type handle and electrode for use with an electrosurgical apparatus.
Salient characteristics:
The disposable, pencil-type handle shall be sterile with a removable blade electrode and shall have a non-removable, electric cord at least 10 feet (3 meters long attached. The distal connector shall be the standard 3 prong configuration for hand-switching active electrodes in monopolar or bipolar electrosurgery.
The handle shall be compatible for use with and securely hold all standard 3/32 inch (2.38 mm) removable electrodes.
The handle shall have integral, finger tip control with international color-coded switches to quickly identify cut and coagulate functions.
The snap-action type switches shall provide audible and tactile feedback.
The handle shall be of watertight sealed construction to protect operator and patient from burns due to current leakage, or unexpected generator activation due to fluid entry.
All metal parts shall be fabricated of suitable corrosion-resisting steel, properly hardened and passivated.
The handle shall be free from burrs, cracks, discoloration and other deformities.
Wormanship. The electrosurgery handle-electrode shall be free from defects which detract from their appearance or impair its serviceability.
