Sampling for tests. Sampling for tests shall be conducted in accordance with MIL-STD-105 and as specified herein. The unit of product for test purposes shall be one fluid dispensing syringe. AQL shall be 1.0 percent defective. Inspection level shall be S-2.
Accuracy for graduations. The graduated scale shall be accurate to within ± 5 percent of the volume indicated on the scale. Syringes shall be tested for volumetric accuracy at each ml graduation from 1 to 10 mls using a calibrated burette.
Graduation markings. The graduation markings shall withstand five vigorous rubbing cycles of a 70% isopropyl alcohol moistened cotton swab. A cycle shall be one up and one down stroke all the length of the barrel. The markings shall remain legible.
Pressure test. The syringe shall be fitted to a standard ANSI/HIMA MD70.1 hub, except that it shall be drilled to allow passage of fluid and shall be connected to the pressure test system so that the pressure within the syringe can be determined. Using water, the syringe shall be pressurized to 45 psig. The plunger shall then be withdrawn to the 5 ml point where it shall remain for at least 10 seconds. During each 10 second period there shall not be enough water passing between the plunger tip and the barrel of the syringe to produce one falling drop. After each stage of the test any water that may have passed shall be wipe with a dry cloth and the next test applied.
Safety, Sterility and pyrogenocity. Syringes shall be tested for safety, sterility and freedom from pyrogens in accordance with the USP.
Biocompatibility. Plastic material shall be tested in accordance with the USP tests for Class IV plastics. Rubber materials shall be tested in accordance with the Intramuscular and Intracutaneous sensitivity tests of the USP.
