COMMERCIAL ITEM DESCRIPTION
TUBE, INHALER
The General Services Administration has authorized the use of this commercial item description.
This commercial item description covers a oxygen connecting tube used in respiratory procedures.
Salient characteristics:
General. The oxygen tubing shall be compatible for use with rebreathing bags, hand held nebulizers and other oxygen administration devices.
Dimensions. The oxygen tubing shall be 72 ± 3 inches long. The inside diameter shall be 9/64 ± 1/64 a inch.
Materials. The tubing shall be nonconductive, and transparent with a green tint. It shall be manufactured from a flexible PVC plastic, and the female connectors shall be manufactured from a rigid plastic.
Style and Design. The outside tubing surface may either be smooth or corrugated. The tubing ends shall have two permanently attached molded, resilient, tapered female connectors. The connectors shall make a secure and leakproof connection with tubing connectors of outside diameter 0.9 to 1.1 cm.
Vacuum test. The tubing shall not collapse when subjected to an internal vacuum of minimum 40 cm of mercury for 30 seconds. Tubing shall be tested for vacuum resistance. Acceptance number shall be zero (0).
Female connector test. Attaching the tubing to a standard male adapter of outside diameter graduated from 0.9 to 1.1 cm, a five pound tensile force shall be applied to the tubing for 30 seconds. The tubing shall not separate from the connector while the force is being applied.
