COMMERCIAL ITEM DESCRIPTION
SCISSORS, NASAL (Curved, Joseph)
The General Services Administration has authorized the use of this commercial item description as a replacement for Military Specification MIL-S-42023 (DM), dated 25 September 1986, which is cancelled.
This commercial item description covers a 5-3/4 inch curved nasal scissors of the Joseph design.
Salient characteristics.
Material. Scissors shall be manufactured from Class 4 martensitic corrosion-resistance steel in accordance with American Society for Testing and Materials (ASTM) Standard F899.
Hardness. The scissor blades shall have a Rockwell hardness of HRC 50-55.
Style and design. Scissors shall be in accordance with figure 1. Blade tips shall both be sharp and shall match exactly in closed position.
Passivation. The scissors shall be properly passivated.
Finish. The finish shall be mirror. The finish shall be uniform and free from cracks, pits, crevices, burrs, and grind or tool marks, and dirt or polishing materials.
Markings. The scissors shall be permanently marked with the manufacturer’s name or registered trademark and the word “stainless”. In addition, forceps of foreign manufacture shall bear the name of the country of manufacture.
Tests. Scissors shall be tested for corrosion-resistance, hardness, and performance as specified under Quality Assurance Provisions.
