COMMERCIAL ITEM DESCRIPTION
FORCEPS, SUTURE, Tying (Troutman)
The General Services Administration has authorized the use of this commercial item description as a replacement for Military Specification MIL-F-42038 (DM), dated 10 March 1987, which is cancelled.
This commercial item description covers an eye suture forceps suitable for microsurgery.
Salient characteristics:
General. The eye suture forceps shall be suitable for tying suture.
Style and design. The forceps shall be of straight design, have very fine points at the tips, and shall be in accordance with DPSC Drawing No. 23382. Forceps shall have non-locking jaws which mesh properly when closed. Forceps shall have handle serrations providing a gripping surface.
Material. Forceps shall be fabricated of Class 4 corrosion-resistant steel in accordance with ASTM F899.
Hardness. Forceps shall have a Rockwell hardness of C-40 to C-45 when tested in accordance with ASTM E18, or E92 and E140.
Boil test. The forceps shall meet the boil test requirements specified in Federal Specification GG-I-526.
Copper sulfate test. The forceps shall meet the copper sulfate test requirements specified in GG-I-526.
Passivation. Forceps shall be properly passivated.
Finish. Forceps shall have a mirror or satin finish.
